Hello, and welcome!

My name is Bradford “Brad” Bennett, and I am an Attorney, Litigator, Mediator, and Collaborative Law Professional licensed in both Illinois and Colorado. I maintain a dedicated Divorce and Family Law practice in Chicago, Illinois.

Over the past 17+ years, I have exclusively practiced family law and devoted my career to deepening my expertise in this complex field to better serve my clients.  While managing an active caseload, I earned an advanced Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in Family Law, became a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst® (CDFA) to enhance my financial insight, and most recently completed the prestigious CDC Certified Divorce Coach® intensive.

By integrating my legal and financial background with the specialized skillset of a trained divorce coach, I can provide my clients with a truly comprehensive coaching experience.  During our sessions, I empower each client with the tools to stay grounded, organized, and emotionally resilient while also coaching them to make informed decisions, think strategically, communicate effectively, and fully leverage the benefits of their own attorney, the judicial process, and other professionals.

Most importantly, I help each client remain focused on how every decision (large or small) will impact the outcome of their divorce and whether it aligns with their long-term goals for themselves, their children, and their financial future.

Very truly yours,

What is a Divorce Coach and
How Can Brad Help You?

Getting divorced is one of the most life-changing and difficult experiences a person can face.  While the legal process demands time, focus, and resources, many people underestimate just how much the stress and uncertainty of divorce can affect their ability to think clearly.  Intense feelings of sadness, fear, anger, and confusion can make it nearly impossible to make thoughtful, future-focused decisions when it matters most.  Even with a skilled attorney by your side, you may find that you need more support than legal advice alone can offer.  Without the right strategic guidance, emotional overwhelm can lead to costly mistakes that affect your finances, your family, and your future.

This is exactly where a trained divorce coach can make a real difference.

Why Divorce Coaching Matters

Divorce Coaching Defined

Divorce coaching is defined as "a flexible, goal-oriented process designed to support, motivate, and guide people going through a divorce to help them make the best possible decisions for their future, based on their interest, needs and concerns.  Divorce coaches have different professional backgrounds and are selected based on the specific needs of their clients..."  American Bar Association (2013).

In practice, a skilled divorce coach can be your greatest asset in achieving the best possible outcome in your divorce.

Divorce coaching can offer meaningful support to almost anyone navigating a divorce, but it can be especially valuable in more complex situations.  If you anticipate a complicated divorce involving a high-conflict spouse or partner, complex financial matters, or contested child-related decisions, a divorce coach can provide the steady guidance you need to help manage your well-being and obtain a better outcome.  Moreover, divorce coaches are also advantageous for those who feel alone or lack proper emotional support in their personal lives, offering a compassionate presence that helps reduce isolation and bring a sense of stability during a difficult time.

Benefits of a Divorce Coach

Pre-Divorce

Planning

Deciding whether to take the first step to initiate a divorce or family law matter in court can often feel like an insurmountable hurdle. As your divorce coach, Brad possesses the skills necessary to help you overcome the overwhelm, objectively assess the strengths and weaknesses of your unique situation, as well as select an attorney who bests aligns with your interests.

Improve Attorney-Client Relationship

As a practicing attorney himself, Brad greatly value clients who ask thoughtful questions, remain well-regulated, and have the ability to actively collaborate with him on their cases. As your divorce coach, he will help you become self-assured, credible, and gain the self-awareness necessary to have more meaningful conversations with your attorney.

Reduce Stress & Stay Regulated

The adversarial nature of a divorce or family law matter can intensify feelings of uncertainty, isolation, and fear, thereby straining relationships, impairing decision-making, and making it challenging to focus on the future. By offering emotional support and practical guidance, Brad will provide a safe space for you to process your feelings, reduce stress, and improve your overall well-being.

Make Better Decisions & Think Like an Attorney

While a divorce coach cannot provide legal advice and should not tell you what to do, Brad excels at using his extensive legal background to help his clients explore previously unknown options, think creatively, and make more informed decisions. Additionally, Brad will support you in maintaining a balanced perspective throughout what is often an emotionally charged process, helping you avoid costly mistakes, and increase the likelihood of achieving your desired outcome.

Resolve Conflicts & Enhance Communications

Brad has firsthand experience navigating a wide range of personality types, conflicts, and complex situations that can arise throughout the legal process. He will teach you how to filter out the noise, maintain reasonable expectations, resolve conflicts, and even prepare strategic responses that you can potentially use as evidence in court.

Discovery Assistance &

Asset Identification

Many divorce and family law cases encounter significant challenges early on due to a lack of understanding about the vital role discovery plays in the legal process. Drawing on Brad’s expertise and role as a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst®, he will help you understand your discovery obligations, ensure full disclosure of your spouse or partner’s assets, debts, income, and liabilities, identify hidden assets, uncover improper spending, and clarify the role of expert involvement.

Improve Emotional

Well-Being

A skilled divorce coach also serves as a reliable resource for building confidence and self-empowerment, helping their clients navigate the many complex decisions they must make with a clear and calm mindset. Furthermore, Brad equips his coaching clients with strategies to manage negative emotions, in order to help them focus on constructive solutions rather than being consumed by conflict.

Learn Effective

Strategies & Tactics

Equip yourself with personalized strategies and practical tactics to navigate even the most high-conflict divorce and family law matters with confidence. Draw from Brad’s experience to prepare like a professional, think several steps ahead, and obtain greater control over the resolution of your case.

Increase Your Credibility

& Case Clarity

Brad takes great pride in helping his clients understand the important of remaining credible at every stage of the legal process, ensuring their voice is heard – whether in settlement negotiations, mediation sessions, depositions, or while testifying in court. This often starts with demystifying the process, explaining what matters, what doesn’t, and the relevance of specific actions.

Navigate Child-Related Matters

Naturally, child custody arrangements and parenting plans are often the most contested aspect of a divorce or family law case. As your divorce coach, Brad deeply understands the complexities and far-reaching impact of child-related matters, as well as how to effectively utilize court-appointed professionals to your advantage. By fostering a child-focused approach, Brad helps his coaching clients gain a fresh, often counterintuitive perspective that not only improves their chances of achieving a favorable outcome, but also prioritizes the best interests of their children.

Mediation, Deposition

Trial Preparation

In many divorce and family law cases, parties may be required to testify before a judge during trials or hearings, participate in depositions, undergo formal interviews with child-related professionals or experts, and negotiate on their own behalf during mediation. These interactions can be both intimidating and crucial to the outcome of your case. As your divorce coach, Brad will help you enhance your credibility, build confidence, and stay focused while testifying in court or communicating with other family law professional, ensuring these interactions strengthen your position rather than jeopardize it.

Get Organized &

Complete Goals

Even the most organized individuals can quickly feel overwhelmed navigating a divorce or family law matter, especially while juggling work, maintaining a household, and raising children. The process often includes extensive discovery, constant communication with attorneys and other professionals, motion practice, settlement negotiations, and court preparation. Brad will guide you through every step of the legal process, help you prioritize and complete tasks, and set realistic goals to ensure steady progress.

Streamline & Shorten

the Legal Process

Only licensed attorneys can provide legal advice, and only mental health professionals can diagnose and treat psychiatric disorders.  However, both are often ill-equipped to fully support clients who struggle to effectively manage and positively influence the outcome of their own family law case, especially in contested or complex matters involving a high-conflict spouse or partner.  Attorneys, while experts in the law, primarily focus on providing legal advice and advocacy, often leaving little room to address their client’s well-being and decision-making process. On the other hand, therapists may excel at offering emotional support during a divorce, but they often lack knowledge of the legal complexities involved to help their clients take meaningful steps to improve the outcome of their case.

Additionally, parties to a divorce or family law matter are often reluctant to pay their attorney’s high hourly rate (typically $400/hour or more) for assistance with matters beyond the scope of the practice of law, such as enhancing their well-being, participating in their decision-making process, improving communication with involved individuals, or addressing any of the numerous other challenges unique to divorce and family law.  On the other hand, relying on a family member or close friend for advice can backfire.  They will likely lack familiarity with the legal process, simply tell you what they think you want to hear – potentially reinforcing poor decisions – or distance themselves to avoid becoming entangled in the ongoing complexities and drama of your case.

  • Cost-Effective Expertise

  • Streamline & Shorten the Legal Process

Skilled divorce coaches like Brad provide specialized expertise that family and friends typically cannot offer, while also being a more cost-effective option compared to family law attorneys.  In line with a commonly accepted informal standard, Brad charges exactly half of his hourly rate as a family law attorney for his divorce coaching services.
